Your organization has stories.

Donors need to hear them.

I write grants, reports, and case studies that share your story to grow your funding.

About Me

Over the last few years, I have written proposals that won over $25 million for my clients. I write for both foundation and federal grant applications, for small, medium, and large organizations. I primarily write for economic development projects, but I also am passionate about education, nutrition, and maternal health.

My passion for international development comes from growing up in Diyarbakir, Turkey, back in the 1990s when the mainly Kurdish region was in the “developing world” category. I moved to the US for college, and have lived here since, except for occasional long work trips and visits abroad. I have a Master of Development Practice from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Currently, I live in Charlotte, NC, with my husband and son.

  • Grant Writing / Proposal Development: I develop the program narrative, organizational capacity statements, and all the other components you may need. I can take the lead from the program design or capture phase, or I can jump in halfway through when your staff realizes they don’t have as much time to write and revise as it needed.

  • Grant Review: Don’t have the budget to hire me to write from scratch? Hire me for a mid-point check in instead. I will give you feedback on whether your pitch is coming across clearly and whether you are in compliance with the grant requirements. If you use “color reviews”, this would be the “Red” stage.

  • Report writing: Reports are as essential to donor funding as the grant itself, particularly if you want to secure repeated rounds of funding. Your staff will need to supply the information for these, of course, but I will help you with the messaging and presentation to ensure the best impact on your reader.

  • Case studies: Whether for your website or as text boxes in your reports, you need to showcase stories that highlight your program’s impact. Writing these requires sensitivity to the people whose stories are being told. And yet, the case studies need to fit into your organization’s story as well. I will work with your staff to gather and communicate these stories in a way that will respect your program participants and resonate with your donors.

  • Grant Readiness and Pre-RFP Preparation: Are you thinking of applying to a new funder for the first time? I will help you get all your documentation and communication ready to go. Is there an upcoming grant opportunity that you need to be ready to apply for? I will have everything set up so that it is as painless as possible once the Request for Proposals is live.

  • Federal or UN Proposals: Overwhelmed by all the pieces and forms required? I have expertise in USAID, USDA, US State, UNHCR, and WFP, among others. I can help you navigate what is needed.

  • Johanna was an invaluable part of our proposal team. She helped us manage multiple proposals to USDA Food for Progress and McGovern-Dole on a tight timeline. She is very skilled at managing personalities and working with limited data. I would hire her again in a heartbeat.
